How To Touch Up Cigars That Burn Unevenly

This article below explains to all cigar aficionado's the enjoyment of smoking quality cigars, and the way to correct when your cigar burns uneven. Enjoy this article, and all the articles at Qualitycigarsandhumidors.com . Also check this great internet store for all your shopping needs at Shop Sports Warehouse.

That relaxing cigar is one of the greatest joys in your life. Few things compare to the refined relaxation that comes from smoking a great cigar. Of course, while the enjoyment offered is immense, there are things that can happen that will reduce the amount of enjoyment you get from your cigar. Uneven burns are one of the great banes of cigar smokers. What should you do to correct this situation and maintain your smoke?

Choosing the right option from the numerous lighters with cigar cutter implements on the market is a great place to start. These combination devices help you add convenience and quality to your smoking experience. You will also need to determine just how worried you are about unevenness. For instance, some smokers will let the uneven burn continue for of a quarter of an inch, while others will let it be for half of an inch.

Your tolerance is the first thing you'll need to decide, but you will still need to know how to deal with that uneven burn should things get a bit out of hand. What should you do to ensure that your cigar burns as evenly as possible?

First, you will need to see if the cigar will self-correct. Most high quality cigars will, but only within a certain tolerance. Generally speaking, if the unevenness continues up to the half-inch point, you need to take matters into your own hands. You'll find that there are numerous ways that you can accomplish this correction, though the simplest, most popular method is to break out that torch lighter and reheat the slow or non-burning portion of the cigar. As a note, if only a very small layer of tobacco or just the wrapper is not burning, your cigar will likely correct itself without the need for your assistance.

That said, if a large percentage of your cigar remains unburned, you'll need to take proactive steps. Hold your lighter directly in front of the cigar; do not allow the flame to touch the tobacco, but just to heat it up. Draw slowly on the cigar and determine if the tobacco is lit. If the tobacco fails to light, you will need to hold the flame a slight bit closer, for a longer duration. Take another draw on your cigar and the filler should light adequately.

Article Source: http://www.ArticleBlast.com

About The Author:

Dave Sabot is the owner of an online specialty cigar lighters store.
Cuban Cigars Legal in 2010 - Close but No Cigar!

Among cigar smokers Cuban cigars are always abuzz. However, legalized Cuban cigars aren't as close as you might think. Though there are many out there that suspect the embargo could be lifted in 2010, you can bet that there are other things that will have to happen before coveted Cubans are going to be legal in the USA.

Since the new administration has taken over, Barack Obama has discussed lifting the Cuban embargo and Cuban cigar lovers have salivated at the chance to get all the Cubans they can at reasonable prices. It's not likely, unfortunately, that this can happen overnight. It is going to have to happen in stages and to quote Rush Limbaugh -"...you have no clue what is ahead of us as cigar smokers. What will happen is that the domestic manufacturers, defined by those who are in the Dominican and in Honduras, Nicaragua, Cameroon, all of the places where elements of cigars are grown, and all the places where they're assembled, these people have in many cases marketed the brands of the Cuban cigars you're talking about Hoyo De Monterrey, Punch, Simon Bolivar, all of these great Cuban brands have been marketed by other owners in the United States, and they are going to go to the Commerce Department, and they're going to say we have made these brands popular, we have invested in the product and in the brand in this country, and they're gonna ask the Commerce Department to ban the import of competing brand-name cigars from Cuba."

Though it's likely that we're going to have to wait a while for Cuba cigars to be legal in the US I think that once Cubans are legal there will be a huge surge of cigar smokers and cigar smoking. Much like the storm of online poker websites and poker players hit once Texas Hold'em became popular the cigar world will see the biggest cigar boom it has ever seen if Cuban cigars are legalized in the US.

There are also other economic factors that come into play when you're talking about legalizing the most coveted cigars on the planet. The economies of Honduras, The Dominican Republic, and Nicaragua will be severely affected once legal Cuban cigars are available to the masses. But, as I stated before, these economies will eventually come back to life stronger than ever once everyone realizes that Cuban cigars aren't really that much different than the cigars produced in the above mentioned countries. Not to mention that once Cuba has to produce cigars for Americans its production will be so overdone that the likelihood of the quality control diminishing is quite strong.
So, if you're crossing your fingers for 2010 to be the year that you're able to get all the Cuban cigars you want without having to sneak them in - keep dreaming! We've got a long way before stocking up on Cubans will be legal in the US!

Article Source: http://www.ArticleBlast.com
About The Author:

If you wish to use cigars as a gift we have great cigar gift ideas.
My Weekend Cigar: Rocky Patel 1961 Toro

Last weekend I joined the regulars in the Famous Smoke Shop cigar store for a Rocky Patel Cigars event. One of the featured cigars was one of Rocky's latest creations, the 1961 series, which he introduced at IPCPR New Orleans last year. Rocky's production manager, Shawn Bussler was kind enough to treat me to a Rocky Patel 1961 Toro which weighs-in at 6" x 52. And it really has some weight, too, being very solidly packed, while allowing an easy draw.

The first thing you notice is the striking black, white and red two-piece band, but it's the dark, oily Ecuadorian Habano wrapper that gives these cigars their panache. The aroma of the wrapper leaf alone is enough to make your mouth water.

The cap clipped-off easily and the pre-light flavor was sweet and spicy on the tongue. Looking at the foot you can see an ample amount of Ligero (the core is all Nicaraguan with an Honduran binder). It took a little longer to toast-up as a result, but once it got going that wonderful aroma revealed all of its redolent beauty.

The first few puffs were quite peppery (cayenne comes to mind) and earthy with a subtle nuttiness and sweet wood flavor on the finish. Now THIS is a full-bodied cigar.

During the second act, the pepper rounded out and more of the nutty-woody flavors began to take over with some leathery notes sneaking into the finish. The cigar remained pretty consistent into the last third building somewhat more in strength, so I strongly recommend you take your time with this cigar and let it smoke itself somewhat to prevent it from becoming too overpowering, or worse, bitter and tarry. It's very complex, and you'll want to savor every puff.

This is an ideal after-dinner cigar for relaxing with a long-aged single malt or even a sweet Port as a counterpoint to the spicy tobacco flavors. And here's a little cigar trivia for you: 1961 was the year Rocky was born, hence, the source of the name.

Highly recommended, especially if you've got a well-educated palate.

Scores:
Appearance - 10
Construction - 9
Draw - 9
Burn - 9
Aroma - 10
Flavor - 9
Balance - 9
Total Score: 9.2

~ G.K.

Finding a Good Bundle Cigar

For those of you who are among the uninitiated, or who are curious about those un-banded, cello-overwrap packages, you probably have your own ideas about where those cigars come from and how they’re made. Actually, if it wasn’t for bundle cigars, there might not be much of a cigar business. Having first appeared in the 1960s, today bundle cigars offer much higher quality, making them an even more practical solution as alternatives to higher-priced boxed cigars.
First, let's clear up the difference between "seconds" and "bundles." "Seconds" are "ungraded" or "unselected" cigars that didn't meet the manufacturer's standards as "firsts" due to minor flaws in the wrapper, the wrapper's color or the overall construction of the cigar itself. That doesn't mean the cigars are bad, they're just not the "up to snuff" (you'll pardon the expression). Because these cigars are still high enough in quality to sell, they're packaged in bundles and sold to retailers at reduced cost, which is passed on to the consumer, making many bundle buys a "win-win" for both parties.

Another way cigars get to be bundles is if a manufacturer has an overrun on a particular size or gets a cancellation on a large order, and in some cases, they're just closeout deals - when they're gone, they're gone. There was a time when bundles were just thrown together without bands and given a name if for nothing more than inventory purposes. (There are still plenty of these around, too.) However, since I first wrote this article, over the years more and more manufacturers now regularly produce their own "banded & branded" bundle cigars of much higher quality, often competing with their own higher-priced boxed brands. Many of these bundles are produced exclusively for certain retailers. Famous Smoke Shop, for example, offers such house brand bundles as La Floridita, Rocky Patel Factory Selects, Dominique, Siboney, and Baccarat Sumatra, to name a few among dozens more.

Choosing a good bundle cigar
Readly to shell out your cash? First, there are some things to consider when buying bundles, even if you know they came from a well-known source:
1) The cigars may not often match in color as they normally would in a box.
2) The taste may be inconsistent in flavor, draw, or burn quality.
3) If you're "on the fence" about a specific bundle, don't be afraid to ask questions first.

When it comes to "inspecting" a bundle cigar, you start with a disadvantage. Because of the way bundles are packaged, you can't just pick one up and check it out like you would a boxed cigar. Probably the only thing you can do is inspect the package to see if the cigars have been bruised, ripped or squished. So what else CAN you do?

Try to buy "premium cigar" bundles that contain long leaf filler. Most do, however, there are some very good "Cuban Sandwich" (mixed filler), and short filler blends out there, too.

Check the blends. Chances are if the blend and body is similar to what you already smoke, you may also enjoy that bundle.

Try a "private" blend like those made exclusively for the retailer by a particular manufacturer that you trust.

Read and learn: Carefully read the descriptions and the customer comments about each bundle. Check some of the online cigar forums, too. Sometimes the copy will name the factory that produced the cigars and can often be the deciding factor in choosing a bundle.

Price: Don't let the price fool you. Price can be determined by any number of reasons: From the quality of the cigars, to what the retailer paid for them, or best case scenario, finding them on sale. Though today some bundles may be close in price to boxed cigars, there are some really excellent buys starting as low as $24.95 if you take the time to look.

Finally, Not unlike searching for a good boxed premium cigar, searching for a good bundle cigar takes some experimentation to find the best quality and value for you.

By Gary Korb

My Weekend Cigar: Famous Private Selection 70th Anniversary by Rocky Patel Robusto

There was a lot of chatter on Facebook, the cigar community sites, Twitter, et. al. last week about what cigar smokers were going to smoke on New Years Eve, or New Years Day. Several customers in the store also asked me what I was planning on enjoying, and to my surprise, it wasn't the cigar I ended up smoking. Of course, if you read the title to this blog you already know, and to tell the truth, I don't know if I could've come up with anything better.

It all started at about 4:00 P.M. on Thursday, Dec. 31. One of my coworkers had just picked up a box of Famous Private Selection 70th Anniversary by Rocky Patel Robusto and was kind enough to hand me not one, but two! Interestingly enough, this is one of the few Famous 70th Anniversary cigars I had not smoked in its final version. That was reason enough to go for it.

Now I know there's always the risk of sounding like a shill when I review a cigar made expressly for Famous Smoke Shop, but damn if this wasn't one of the best cigars I smoked all year, and you can think whatever you like. (If I had smoked it sooner I probably would have mentioned it in Our Most Impressive Cigars of 2009 article.)

Rocky's cigars seem to improve year after year, and it looks like there's no ceiling in sight. This limited edition 70th Anniversary selection offers an extra-long-aged longfiller blend of various Nicaraguan tobaccos, a Honduran binder and a gorgeous Ecuadorian-grown Cuban seed wrapper leaf that adds a lot of flavor to this full-bodied blend. If that sounds a bit cryptic, blame Rocky; I think he wanted to keep the Famous 70th by Rocky Patel cigars blend in his designer suit pocket. Moreover, just today read the following applicable quote by Rocky in a recent online cigar review: "I don’t make a blend and give it to 10 people - I trust my palate and I know what I’m looking for." (Why am I not surprised?)

From the first puff this cigar was right in my wheelhouse. The smoke was intensely aromatic and flavorful; rife with earthiness, sweet spices (nutmeg, for sure) all underscored by a rich woodiness. Each puff was amazingly creamy, easy, and every bit as flavorful as the one before. The ash was very firm with a clean burn, too. I paired it with a glass of Tawny Port, which made a great match, as well.

I let the cigar rest between puffs. There was no way I wanted it to get tarry or bitter and it paid-off. Even by the last third the cigar remained smooth and creamy and glowing with caramelized flavors. If you like complex flavor, there's plenty here for you. I'll stop there, only to add that I hope your first cigar of the New Year was as enjoyable as was mine. Now I can't wait to try the other one.

Scores:
Appearance - 9
Construction - 9
Draw - 9
Burn - 9
Aroma - 9
Flavor - 9
Balance - 9
Total Score: 9.0

Feel free to chime in on your New Years cigar.

~ Gary Korb

How To Shop For High Quality Cigars

Are you shopping for a gift for someone in your company or a business associate? If you have someone on your gift list who is a cigar aficionado you may want to consider buying them high quality cigars. You don't have to be the world's foremost authority on the subject to be able to choose a good cigar. Below I have compiled a few tips to help you be successful in your search.

Cigars are now more popular than ever before which makes it much easier to find them. Though they used to be considered only for people of influence but now the general public is getting into the act and with the plethora of smoke shops available it is easier than ever to find what you are looking for. Finding high quality Cuban cigars is still tough and will be until the embargo is listed, but that won't stop you from finding a top quality cigar that will please the person you are giving it to.

The first step to finding high quality cigars is to go to a local smoke shop that specializes in cigars. Stay away from the so-called "drugstore cigars", they maybe cheaper but the reason they are cheaper is because they are filled with inferior fillers, preservatives, and irritants. The product you are seeking should be composed on pure, 100% tobacco only. If you are in doubt or have some questions about the ingredients, ask the clerk or salesperson on duty. In most shops these people are highly experienced and knowledgeable and will be able to provide you with any and all information you may need to make a decision.

Even though you may want to shop online to find better bargains, the local tobacco shop is the place to start because you can smell and touch the products which will help you make a good choice. A tip that will help you here is this, when you squeeze a good quality stogie it will compress just a little. It should also be uniform in shape, firm, and not have sections that are soft or hard. The wrapper should be very tight and not rough at all and should not be dry or discolored. If you see a wrapper that has any of those features you shouldn't buy it. The color of the tobacco inside of the product should be even and this can be inspected by looking at the end of the cigar. There will be some slight color differences but sharp changes in contrast of the tobacco indicate that the product was not rolled correctly which greatly affects the burning and can also put off unwanted odors.

The best choice of length when you are unsure how much the person smokes is to go with the longer cigars. These will have a better taste and are great for novices as well. For people who are regular smokers, buy them one that has a larger diameter which will have the richer flavor that they will like.

Article Source: http://www.earticlesonline.com/

About the Author:
David Cragg was funded by both Microsoft and IBM to build Internet marketing companies.
The Services Of The Cigar Store To You The Smoker

This article below will give all cigar aficionados the information needed when buying quality cigars from your favorite cigar store.

Cigar aficionados must cultivate a relationship with their local tobacconist or cigar store. The people who work in these shops possess a wealth of knowledge about the best products and how to care for your stogies. In this article, we'll talk about the services that these retailers provide to avid cigar smokers.

The greatest benefit of shopping at a cigar store is the access to knowledgeable people. The staff will usually possess unlimited information on premium brands, new products and tips on caring for your collection. Some of the larger retailers regularly offer information seminars where you can sample products and meet other people who share your love for cigar smoking.

In addition to tobacco products, you can purchase beautiful and unique accessories from a store. Cigar boxes, cutters and cases represent just a fraction of the treasures you can find. The larger retailers carry extraordinary antiques with superb craftsmanship. Many stores also stock books and magazines dedicated to cigars.

The internet has opened up a world of possibilities to such smokers. Most premium brands are now available online. However, buyers must beware when shopping in an online cigar store. Some distributors do not store their products properly and your cigars can arrive dry and bitter.

Obviously, you want value for your money, so ask if they store their cigars in a humidor. Protecting the product in transit is also a concern. Some distributors ship their products with a water pillow, which is a portable humidifier that will keep your cigars moist. As a bonus, the water pillows are reusable.

Many Cuban cigar retailers are popping up on the Web and not all of them can be trusted. There are certain tips you should follow when buying Cuban cigars online. Always avoid buying Cuban cigars on auction sites. Many people use auction sites to sell fake products. Only deal with reputable, certified Havana tobacco merchants. If a deal sounds too good to be true - it probably is.

Expect to pay prime dollars for a box of Cuban cigars. Anything less may be counterfeit. If you do decide to order Cuban cigars online, go for a sampler one. Ordering a sample pack one allows you to test the quality of the product before spending great amounts of money.

An excellent line of defense is your credit card. If you don't get your tobacco order, you can dispute the transaction and get a refund.

For the tobacco aficionados, shopping has never been such an exciting experience. Because cigar smoking has become trendy again, their stores are stocking a wider variety of premium cigars and accessories, and they're offering more services to their customers.

The discriminating smoker can now shop anywhere in the world from the comfort of his own home. Whether you're shopping in person or in cyberspace, be selective about what you buy and you can get one that is sure to tantalize your taste buds.
Article Source: http://www.eArticlesOnline.com

About the Author:
Mike Selvon has some great cigars articles for the smoker, where you can find out more about the cigar store.
Protect Your Cigars With A Good Humidor

This article below will give what any cigar aficionado looks for in quality cigars and humidors. Don't forget to buy some of the finest quality cigars from www.qualitycigarsandhumidors.com

My name is Michael Vandenstockt and I"m a fairly well known guy; at least in America"s smoke shops and the world of fine tobacco aficionados. I can be a bit of a polarizing figure, the guy the shop owners either love or hate. They tend to hate me if they"re making a mint by selling the unsuspecting public a bunch of garbage stogies at inflated prices. Frankly, these guys shouldn"t be in business in the first place. On the other hand, they love me if their customers come in and instead of arguing over the prices and looking for the cheapest things they can find, come right out and request a box of Davidoff Aniversario #2, or Padron Aniversario Torpedo, or even Saint Luis Rey Serie G Churchill. An educated customer is the best thing any smoke shop can ask for.

Another product that finer retailers carry is a humidor and I thought I"d spend a bit of time talking about this very essential piece of equipment. Like anything else, there are good, bad and ugly humidors out there. Beyond quality, there are other factors to consider, such as size (or capacity), the construction material and finish (both interior and exterior) and advanced features such as hygrometer and humidification devices.

Humidors are manufactured in a wide range of sizes, from travel versions that only hold several cigars at a time, to models that are large enough to hold hundreds. There"s a fairly obvious price to size ratio going on here, from the amount of raw materials needed to shipping cost. Next up is the construction material and finish. Again, there"s a fair bit of common sense involved here: generally speaking, a plastic humidor is going to be cheaper than one constructed of solid cherry or an exotic material like carbon fiber. Any mechanicals included in the humidor such as a hygrometer (used to measure humidity) or humidification devices used to maintain optimal moisture content within the humidor are going to add to cost. Finally, there"s an intangible, namely the manufacturer. A Davidoff humidor is going to cost more than a similar no-name, simply because of reputation.

You found a humidor for twenty bucks? Chances are it"s either a travel model, or it qualifies for "ugly." A really good one can set you back hundreds to thousands of dollars.

Article Source: http://www.eArticlesOnline.com

About the Author:
C. Michael Vandenstockt knows his Cigars and he wants everyone else to learn the difference between a good Cohiba and the dried out chafe wrapped in kraft paper you see for sale in corner stores. "I"ve seen too many people turned off cigars for life after one bad stogie at stag party," says Vandenstockt, who has written a series of articles explaining the key differences between a good Cigar and a bad one. His last seminar, held at a popular cigar shop in Baltimore, quickly sold out, proving his message is getting out there.
This week I had one of those little epiphanies that happen every so ofen. I've been going through this CAO 24 cigar sampler I bought about a month ago, It comes with six of the award-winning cigar manufacturer's finest line extensions in Robusto sizes: CAO Gold, Gold Maduro, CX2, CAO Maduro, Criollo, and Brazilia.

By now I've been through all six, but as I continue to smoke through the collection, there's one cigar in here I realized that I've overlooked since it's release, and it's really grown on me: the CAO Criollo Pato (shown). In the past I've smoked only a few CAO Criollos (in several sizes) and enjoyed them all, but now that I've been able to smoke several in succession I have a newfound appreciation for this particular blend.

This got me to thinking about other cigars that I've enjoyed, but only "toyed with," so to speak. As someone who works in the cigar business, there have been many excellent releases over the years that, as good as they were, just didn't "find an audience," as one colleague wrote to me during an email thread on this subject. As a result, I've been encouraged to try some 5-packs of these other "lost cigars" to rediscover them and see what I was missing.

Have you rediscovered any cigars you haven't smoked in a long time? If so, please leave a comment.

~ Gary Korb

How To Shop For A High Quality Cigar

Are you shopping for a gift for someone in your company or a business associate? If you have someone on your gift list who is a cigar aficionado you may want to consider buying them a high quality cigar.

The first step to finding a high quality stogie is to go to a local smoke shop that specializes in cigars.

<!--An ebook is a book available in an electronic format.
